living in oog in al - village tranquility in the middle of Utrecht

Oog in Al is one of those neighborhoods where you immediately feel at home. A neighborhood that feels like a village, but in the middle of the city. Here no hustle and bustle as in the city center, but rather peace, space and character, while within ten minutes cycling you are at Utrecht Central Station or in the city center. Even by car you are in the right place: the neighborhood has a quick connection to both the A2 and the A12.

What makes Oog in Al extra special is the combination of central location, lots of greenery and a strong neighborhood identity.

A neighborhood with a story

In 1921, housing association built Outside Home at the edge of today's Park Oog middle-class houses. These were designed by architect Piet Klaarhamer and marked the beginning of the so-called Composer Neighborhood. The street names in Oog in Al therefore refer to composers, musicians, writers, poets and other cultural and historical figures, a fine reflection of the neighborhood's character.

In addition, on Robert Schumann Street there is a special row of homes designed by none other than Gerrit Rietveld.

Green and space: Park Oog in Al

The heart of the neighborhood is Park Oog in Al, created in 1920. A popular place for young and old. You will find here:

  • A petting zoo
  • Multiple playgrounds scattered throughout the neighborhood
  • Lots of greenery for walking, picnicking or running

The park is a true meeting place and contributes greatly to the village feel of Oog in Al.

Hotspots & hospitality

When it comes to culinary delights, too, you're in the right place in Oog in Al. A few popular addresses:

Housed in the old 1905 Stichtse Olie- en Lijnkoekenfabriek: Neighborhoods in the Factory. Just like the Neighborhoods in Tuindorp-Oost a great place for families, but also perfect for lunch, drinks or dinner without kids. Always good food and a relaxed, cozy atmosphere.

A beautiful place in the middle of the park: Country House in the City. Ideal for breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks by the water. Also nice: coffee to go before a walk through the park.

Restaurant Smoesjes: A cozy restaurant on Handel Street, beloved by local residents.

Handel Street: the beating heart of the neighborhood

Händelstraat is the lively center of Oog in Al. This cozy shopping street is a place where local residents meet and where you can go for almost all your daily shopping. From the supermarket and drugstore to specialty stores like the bakery and cheese store: everything is within walking distance and contributes to the fine, village feel of the neighborhood.

What makes Handel Street extra special is the supply of fresh produce. Several days a week there is a fish stall and on Saturdays you can visit the greengrocer and a delicatessen stand. That makes a round of shopping not only practical, but also cozy and typical Oog in Al.

Amenities & Facilities

For families, the range of amenities is particularly complete. Several elementary school can be found in the neighborhood, as well as various options for childcare and after-school care. This makes Oog in Al a popular place for young families who like to have everything close to home.

When it comes to care and exercise, the neighborhood is also well equipped. With family doctors, a pharmacy, dentist and even a veterinarian nearby, medical facilities are always within easy reach. For sports and recreation, residents can visit several gyms in the neighborhood. There is also a library, which makes Oog in Al even more attractive as a pleasant and complete living environment.
