From working-class district to beloved city neighborhood
Lombok emerged in the late 19th century as a typical working-class neighborhood for people who worked around the railway and industry of Utrecht. That history is still reflected in the characteristic streetscapes and old houses.
In recent decades, Lombok has developed into one of Utrecht's most popular city neighborhoods. The district is known for its mix of cultures, ages, and lifestyles. Students, young families, creative entrepreneurs, and young professionals feel at home here thanks to the vibrant atmosphere, the many shops and restaurants, and its location close to the city center.

Kanaalstraat is the beating heart of Lombok and is known as one of Utrecht's most characterful shopping streets. Here, the scents, flavors, and cultures of the neighborhood blend effortlessly. You'll find artisan bakeries, specialty shops, colorful greengrocers, and restaurants from all over the world.
The neighborhood exudes an authentic and lively atmosphere that makes Lombok unique within Utrecht. Whether you grab a coffee at a local coffee shop in the morning, buy fresh bread at the bakery, or are looking for special ingredients for dinner, it's all possible in Lombok.
The renovated Mint Building

Education and childcare in the neighborhood
Several childcare facilities can be found throughout the neighborhood, and there is also plenty of choice in terms of education. For example, Jenaplan School De Brug is located in the district: a popular primary school where independence, collaboration, and personal development are central. You will also find Kindercampus Molenpark and, as they say themselves: learning together and celebrating differences in a safe, colorful environment in Lombok.
Perfectly accessible
Lombok is very centrally located. From the neighborhood, you can cycle to the Utrecht city center or Utrecht Central Station in just a few minutes. Driving is also excellent thanks to its proximity to the A2 and A12 highways.

In addition, various bus connections and bike paths ensure that you can get around the city quickly.
